Biography

John Matthews has been a trusted coach, advisor and strategist for close to 30 years. His expertise and insight have been shaped by wise leaders and a diverse career in journalism, politics, business and healthcare governance.

John is a trusted advisor who helps leaders and teams build resilience and reach their potential in uncertain environments. With particular strength in leadership communications, culture development and change management, John is energized by the massive changes underway in healthcare and other industries deeply influenced by public policy and politics.

John’s works in both for-profit and non-profit sectors, emphasizing executive effectiveness, strategic insight and high-stakes communications execution. Among his former clients are the Green Bay Packers, Aurora Health Care and numerous national and international enterprises.

John began his career as a news reporter, later moving into government, rising to chief of staff to former Wisconsin Governor and U.S. Health Secretary Tommy Thompson. John led the national Public Affairs Practice for Milwaukee law firm Foley & Lardner. He was a global senior officer at Diversey Inc., serving as chief of staff to the CEO and senior vice president for strategy, corporate affairs and sustainability. John is a board member and senior advisor to Intellivisit, a virtual care company, and former chief strategy officer for American Gene Technologies in Maryland. John serves as a board member for Mission of Hope Haiti, a faith-based Haitian NGO; Call2Recycle, a national battery recycling NGO; and The Water Council, a public/private partnership in water technology.

Married with three kids, John and his family assist young students in central Milwaukee and tend to their farm in Central Wisconsin.

John holds a B.A. degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
